REUTERS/Rebecca Cook//File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsDETROIT, Nov 16 (Reuters) - General Motors' (GM.N) tentative labor deal with the United Auto Workers (UAW) union has clinched ratification, making its workers the first of those at the Detroit Three automakers to approve the agreement. The UAW's GM vote tracking site shows approval of the contract leading by a 55% to 45% margin with nearly 36,000 workers having cast votes out of about 46,000 UAW-represented GM workers. Currently, about 67% of Ford workers who have voted are in favor of the UAW deal, and about 66% of Stellantis workers have so far voted in favor, according to UAW figures. Ford voting is scheduled to finish on Friday, while Stellantis is set to close next Tuesday.

"This orderly pause is a further step to rebuild public trust while we undergo a full safety review," Cruise said in a blog post. In addition, Cruise will hire an outside safety expert to review the company's safety operations and culture, according to the blog post. Cruise previously said it had retained law firm Quinn Emanuel to examine Cruise's response to the accident. The teams under Glidden include communications and finance, according to the blog post. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said last month it was investigating the safety of Cruise vehicles.

The move is the latest sign that electric vehicle production and demand may not be as strong as forecast. GM had been set to begin production of the electric Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra in late 2024 at the suburban Detroit plant. Ford said in July it would slow the ramp-up of electric vehicle production and forecast a full-year loss of $4.5 billion on its EV unit. GM still plans a significant boost in EV production in 2024 including adding a new shift at a Detroit-Hamtramck factory that is currently building EV SUVs and pickup trucks. General Motors said on Tuesday it still plans to end production of the Chevrolet Bolt EV at the end of 2023.

REUTERS/Rebecca Cook/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsDETROIT, Oct 5 (Reuters) - General Motors (GM.N) said on Thursday it had made a counteroffer to the United Auto Workers (UAW) in a bid to end a strike by the union against the U.S. automaker. Separately, UAW President Shawn Fain plans an update on the status of the talks with the Detroit Three automakers at 2 p.m. EDT (1800 GMT) on Friday in the three-week-old strike. The first-ever targeted strike against the Detroit Three automakers, including Ford (F.N) and Stellantis (STLAM.MI), began on Sept. 15. The UAW said on Monday it presented a new contract offer to GM. In addition to Ford, talks with Chrysler parent Stellantis and have been active in recent days, sources said.

DETROIT, Sept 20 (Reuters) - Talks were ongoing on Wednesday between union representatives and company management in the sixth day of the United Auto Workers strike at the Detroit Three automakers, a day after Ford (F.N) averted a walkout by Canadian workers. The UAW launched a strike against Ford, General Motors (GM.N) and Chrysler parent Stellantis (STLAM.MI) last week, targeting one U.S. assembly plant at each company. The UAW's coordinated U.S. action led to about 12,700 workers going on strike last week. Ford reached a last-minute deal to avoid a walkout at its Canadian operations late on Tuesday. Unifor, which represents about 5,600 Canadian auto workers, had been threatening to go on strike at all three of Ford's plants in that country if a deal was not reached by late on Tuesday.

On Monday, the UAW held talks with Stellantis though no deal was reached. About 12,700 UAW workers are on strike as part of a labor action targeting three U.S. assembly plants - one at each of the Detroit Three - after the prior four-year labor agreements expired. He said the UAW is ready to do what was necessary when asked whether it would extend the strike to other plants this week. Ford has an assembly plant and two engine plants in Canada with a total of about 5,000 union workers. Shares of BlueScope Steel (BSL.AX) slipped to an over three-month low as the strike weighs on its North American business.

WASHINGTON/DETROIT, Dec 9 (Reuters) - Chrysler parent Stellantis (STLA.MI) on Friday said it will indefinitely halt operations at an assembly plant in Illinois in February, citing the rising costs of electric vehicle production. The automaker, which employs about 1,350 workers at the Belvidere, Illinois, plant that builds the Jeep Cherokee SUV, said the action will result in indefinite layoffs and added it may not resume operations as it considers other options. Stellantis has said it will invest over 30 billion euros ($31.6 billion) through 2025 on electrifying its vehicle lineup. Stellantis spokeswoman Jodi Tinson would not comment on whether the Cherokee production would be moved to Toluca. UAW Vice President Cindy Estrada noted Stellantis imports many vehicles into the United States and said "companies like Stellantis receive billions in government incentives to transition to clean energy.
